Cheese dairy Engelburg
EU Nr. 3437
The cheese dairy lies at the foot of the Tannenberg at a height of 730 meters above sea level. It is a cooperative society, and was founded in 1898. The family Wick has been the milk purchaser since 1996. Two apprentices (www.milktechnologe.ch), a cheese maker and three part time workers are employed here. Seven to nine loaves of Emmentaler Switzerland are produced daily. Each year, approximately 270 tons of Emmentaler are produced, for which we use only conventional rennet. The cooperative obtains the milk from 26 dairy farms from the region. We already comply with the requirements for the AOC seal of approval.
The cooperative processes approximately 3.3 million kilogram’s of milk a year. The milk is collected daily from the dairies in the neighbourhood.
The speciality shop, which is attached to the cheese-making dairy, has been refurbished and extended and offers the following range of products: More than 80 semi-hard cheeses, milk products, fruit and vegetables, and fresh bread daily. Everything one needs for the daily consumption.
We offer the following specialities: Cheese plates for your party, home made fondue (ready to cook) and home- and freshly-made yoghurts in various flavours.
